There are a number of reasons why balancing can be thrown out on a 3-way-rec. The 2 most common causes are as follows:
Once the period has finished, a backdated posting has been made in a new period.
You can check this by:
From the DPS Home Screen click on Nominal.
Run the Bank Nominal ledger you are out on.
Selecting Show Posting Date.
Select Show Posting Period.
Scrolling down the ledger to see where the periods do not match the dates they are posted in.
A matter could say have a client account balance on 01/11/22, and the month end is completed and reconciles correctly, but then when the file closes on say, 15/12/22, the user accidentally enters the year incorrectly and enters 15/12/21.
You can check this by:
From the DPS Home Screen click on Reports.
Select Matters tab.
Select Matter Balances report.
Run the report to the relevant date range and make a note of the matter balance. Run it again and tick Include Closed Matters, If there is a difference, this is likely the difference you are looking for on your 3-way-rec.
Compare the difference between the two matter balance reports, to locate the rogue matter and correct the closed/completion date on the matter set up screen.
If you are struggling to pinpoint the matter which is creating the imbalance, please raise a new case and refer to this article.
