Moving money between banks

Moving money between banks is always confusing, as debits (increase the balance) and credits (reduce the balance) behave in the opposite way to usual standard nominals, due to how they work with double-entry accounting.

Here are 2 examples of how to move money between bank account nominals:

If you physically make a payment out of Office Bank A and receipt it into Office Bank B. There are 2 methods of making this transfer posting:

BANK TRANSFER (Office banks only)

  1. From the DPS Home Screen, select Nominal Ledger.

  2. Select Bank Payments and Receipts.

  3. Select type as Bank Transfer.

  4. Add Office Bank A as your From Bank.

  5. Add Office Bank B as your To Bank.

  6. Complete all other relevant fields.

  7. Post Batch.

JOURNAL (Can be performed on Office and Client banks)

  1. From the DPS Home Screen, select Nominal Ledger.

  2. Select Journals.

  3. Add Office Bank A nominals as a Credit.

  4. Add Office Bank B nominals as a Debit.

  5. Complete all other relevant fields.

  6. Post Batch.
